11Sheets to buy

  • 11Exact sheets

How it works

Sheets = (area × (1 + waste%)) ÷ sheet coverage. We ceil to whole sheets.

Worked example

Example: 320 sq ft, 32 sq ft/sheet, 10% waste → 11 sheets.

Common sheet sizes

A 4×8 sheet covers 32 sq ft; 4×12 covers 48 sq ft. Enter the coverage for the sheets you will hang.

Waste

Simple rectangular rooms may need ~10%. Lots of openings or stairwells may need more.

Ceilings vs walls

Add ceiling and wall areas separately if thicknesses differ, then sum sheets.

Frequently asked questions

How many 4×8 sheets for a room?

Divide adjusted area by 32, then add waste. This calculator does that when sheet coverage is 32.

Should I buy extra sheets?

Rounding up covers mishits and odd cuts. Keep a spare for repairs if dye lots matter for texture.

Does this include screws and mud?

No—only sheet count. Fasteners and joint compound follow coverage charts on the bags.
